How to set up Lookup Columns within On-Premises SharePoint and Office 365

Laura and Corey discuss Lookup Column functionality that can be used in SharePoint 2010, SharePoint 2013, SharePoint 2016 and SharePoint Online / Office 365

Lookup columns are confined to the lists and libraries from the site that you are in, Laura discusses how you can:

  • connect to other list data
  • pick the column to display
  • display additional fields
  • restrict or cascade the relationship

As an example she demonstrates how to set up lookup columns between Job Openings with related Job Applicants.

She moves on to then consider Central Lookup lists for data such as Department (for example) and how this can provide useful within Site Collections.
